Week 6-8

Week 6
This week I was focusing on understanding Sarah Watson's style of art.
This was my first attempt at recreating her style. This wasn't something
i'd done anything like before so i found it quite difficult. I don't think this piece
was unsuccessful as a first attempt but it does look very flat and lifeless.
This is my second and third attempt. I think i picked a better pose for the dog drawing
and it is more detailed which makes it look better than my first attempt.
I think the penguin is one of my best attempts so far. I was a lot looser
with the lines and pain which gives the drawing more life.

Week 7

This week I focused mainly on Liam James Cross and Uno Hoffman.

This is my second attempt. This time I have used acrylic for my background
and I think it works a lot better. I have also used some photos of my dog
as Uno sometimes incorporates photos into his work.
This is my first attempt at creating Uno Hoffman's style.
I have created a background with watercolour and then added
acrylic and pen on top. I don't think watercolour works well in this style.
This was an attempt of Sarah's style again.
My lines and paint strokes are very loose
which is exactly what i wanted.
I think adding a background added a lot
of interest to the drawing and creates
 more contrast and dimension.

These two drawings look quite boring.
I think they need a background.
Week 8

This Week I focused on looking at and understanding Uno Hoffman's and Liam James Cross's Styles.

For this piece I took a pictures of my paint pallete and used it as a background.
I then added paint and pen over the top of it. It worked really well and
you can hardly tell that the background is a photo.

For this piece i used white pen in addition to black pen.
I think it gives the piece more contrast.
I used a photo I took and newspaper on this piece.
I wanted to look at using different materials.

For this piece, instead of putting down a wash of watercolour, I put watercolour
around the drawing to make is stand out more and contrast against the background.
I think this worked but the drawing itself also looks more flat because It has no
colour in it. I also worked on not creating a black outline which i think i did successfully.

I wanted to link Uno and Liam together so i put down acrylic paint as Uno does and
then drew on top of it in pen like Liam does. The idea was to draw animals by
looking at the way i put the paint down and finding an animal of the same kind of shape.

Mono-Printing

This was my first attempt, I created a background and then tried to
paint over it with a paintbrush. I don't think it was very successful.
I did this print to look at how the ink
works/looks on different paper. I think the brown
paper adds more interest to the print.
I created a background (which turned out too dark) and then i
drew a penguin on the back. I don't think it was successful because
the background is too dark and you cannot see the drawing.

I think this was my most successful print. I did the same as i did
with the penguin but this time i created a lighter background.
I think it works really well.

I used different colours on this piece. I created a yellow
background and then drew in black afterwards.
I think this works well also, It has a lot of contrast.
Escape Art

On a Thursday I volunteer at a group called escape art. They do a lot of different arts and crafts projects and this was the first week i took part in the activity they were doing. This is my attempt at needle felting. While its not very good it has inspired me to look at artists that use things other than paint/pencil.
